1884 Paxton House Inn, which has been accepting guest for fourteen
years, is the grandest historical bed and breakfast in Thomasville,
Georgia. The Inn occupies about two acres in the heart of one
of historic Thomasville’s premier districts listed on the
National Register of Historic Places; The Tockwotton District.
Leisure travel, business trips, honeymoons and anniversaries can
all be enjoyed here in a non-smoking facility where you, as our
guest, are truly the most important people in the world. |

1884 Paxton House Inn is one of only two remaining Victorian
Gothic Mansions in the area. Built in 1884 as a winter cottage
for Colonel J. W. Paxton of Wheeling, West Virginia and
his family. This is a one of a kind, board and batten home
featuring gothic turrets, Victorian gingerbread and expansive
verandahs. One of the first seasonal residences built in
Thomasville during the hotel era featured in the first illustrated
pamphlet about Thomasville’s Winter Season, which was
published to lure the Northerners to Winter here. |

The 1884 Paxton House hosted
many grand parties and social events of the season. On a quiet
day, you can still hear the music. Now consisting of 4 separate
buildings, the Main House, Carriage House, Pool House and Garden
Cottage. The Inn also has a Gift Shop filled with porcelain and
china that mirror those in our collections. |
| The house boasts a courting window, tight
circular staircase, double heart pine floors, 13-foot ceilings
splendid millwork, nine-foot doors, original windows and 12 coal
burning ornamental fireplaces. Sprinkled throughout the Inn are
antiques including a 1905 fully restored Mason and Hamlin Piano
that may be heard while enjoying afternoon tea. Reliving the charm
and genteel pace of a truly southern lifestyle. |
